Natural or tan, and nothing else — no lining, no hardware, no fastening. The shape comes from what you put in it, and settles differently every day.

The strap is cut to sit under the arm, close to the body, which is how a straw bag wants to be carried.

It goes with linen and it goes with denim, and it looks better in its second summer than in its first.

Keep it dry, keep it out of the washing machine, and it will hold its colour.

Spot clean first. Warm water, a drop of mild soap, a soft cloth, working in
small circles. Most marks come out this way, and it's far kinder to the fabric
than a full wash.

If it really needs more, hand wash in cold water. Never the machine, never the
dryer, never bleach.

Reshape it while it's damp and let it dry flat, away from direct sun.

Woven and straw bags shouldn't be washed at all. Wipe them, keep them dry, and
they'll hold their colour for years.

Store it with a little tissue paper inside so it keeps its shape — and empty the
pockets before you put it away for the season.

A bag you carry every day will soften and fade a little. That's it settling in,
not wearing out.
