It opens like a doctor's bag — all the way, flat — so you see everything at once, instead of digging with one hand while the other one is holding the baby.

The front pocket holds three padded bottle sleeves and a mesh pocket for a dummy. There's a wipe dispenser on the side that pulls them out one at a time, and a zipped pocket flat against your back for your phone and keys.

Thirty-nine centimetres tall and 680 grams empty. It stands up on its own when you put it down.

Padded shoulder straps, or the top handles when you're only going as far as the car.

The bag for the year you leave the house carrying more of someone else's things than your own.

Spot clean first. Warm water, a drop of mild soap, a soft cloth, working in
small circles. Most marks come out this way, and it's far kinder to the fabric
than a full wash.

If it really needs more, hand wash in cold water. Never the machine, never the
dryer, never bleach.

Reshape it while it's damp and let it dry flat, away from direct sun.

Woven and straw bags shouldn't be washed at all. Wipe them, keep them dry, and
they'll hold their colour for years.

Store it with a little tissue paper inside so it keeps its shape — and empty the
pockets before you put it away for the season.

A bag you carry every day will soften and fade a little. That's it settling in,
not wearing out.
